Safija Džiko, lovingly known as Teta Safa, is a special part of the Pegasos Center and the person who brings warmth to everyday life at the center.
We often say that Pegasos is one big family, and in every family there is someone who makes sure everyone is cared for. For us, that person is Teta Safa. Through her attention, care, and genuine interest in every individual, she creates a sense of safety and belonging that can be felt from the very first visit.
During weekends, when the center is at its busiest, she is always present, welcoming, observing, and responding. Her eyes are often on the children, quietly making sure no one is tired, hungry, or in need of a little extra care.
During camps, she plays an essential role in the daily life of the children. She prepares meals and takes care of their overall well-being, making sure every child feels safe and looked after. When someone feels homesick or misses their parents, she is there to offer comfort, a kind word, and a sense of security.
At Pegasos, there is also an unspoken rule that small injuries and fears disappear fastest with her gentle words, and that tears melt away under her care and warmth. At the end of a long and busy day, her voice often marks a moment of rest and togetherness with a simple question: “Eh, shall we have coffee now?”
